Review from Trip Advisor:

“Lovely hotel with perfect decor room! Definitely recommend!” - Jessica630, Singapore
Date of review: Jan 11, 2011
We booked this hotel last minute at a high season. The price was higher than normal. However the studio room was soooo beautiful. Will definitely stay here again if come back to maleka. The breakfast was also nice. The hotel is 10-min walk to Joker Street-- the main sight. We found it was bearable.

“Worth it! Affordable and Excellent Service” - MIs055, Singapore

Checked-in on 30th Dec 2010. The exterior of the hotel looks nice and classy. Drove there and welcomed by the friendly bellhops. Checked in there quite early. The service is superb. The Studio Room is very spacious. We booked the King size bed and a single extra bed room. For a large family, studio room should be considered. Cleaniness for a 4star hotel (i think it is a four star hotel) is good. The lobby decoration is WOW especially the ceiling! like im in Rome. haha. Going to the town area (example: Mahkota Parade, Jusco, Melaka Sentral, Jonker Street, A Farmosa) is just 5 minutes away if you drive or taking a cab. They also offer free shuttle service to those areas. Overall, I can say that this hotel is worth staying because it is convenient, comfortable and they provide excellent service. =)

“Enjoyed my stay at Avillion Legacy”
Date of review: Aug 9, 2010
I was pretty hesitant about staying at Avillion Legacy due to quite a number of below average reviews on the net. However, many of the other hotels were fully booked during the Singapore national day long weekend (7th to 9th August). So my hubby and I decided to get a Studio room at Avillion on a non-smoking floor. I was not too looking forward to the hotel stay and not to pin much hopes about the room.

Much to our surprise, our room was pretty well furnished. I would not say that it is extremely well maintained but the basics were there. It was certainly not as bad as the reviews mentioned. Of course, some minute bits of the room were not that well kept, e.g. some bits of wood had already come off from a corner etc but they certainly it did not affect our stay at all. I fell ill on the first day and had a fever so I stayed in the room almost the whole day. The bed was comfy, air-con temperature was easy to set and everything was pretty good. And very importantly, it was easy to set the temperature of the water in the bathroom. It can be a little dim even when all lights were switched on at night but we were okay with that.

The only not-so-good thing about Avillion is that it is a little out of the way to tourist places like Jonker Street and Mahkota Parade. But the hotel does provide shuttle bus service to these places at specific time at 12 pm, 3 plus and 6 plus I think. And they do pick u up from where u alighted. If you are going at other timings, then the hotel can help u to call for a cab and you pay RM 15 for each trip. Though it's a little inconvenient, the hotel is not as noisy as those hotels near the tourist places where many tourists flood the lobby and breakfast areas. If you want some peace and quiet time, Avillion Legacy has it.

Avillion's breakfast is not that fantastic. I only like the noodle soup and Fried Bee Tai Bak. The eggs were a bit overcooked. Tea and coffee was fine. My partner and I weren't too fussy about breakfast as we usually 'hunt' for good food places outside after breakfast. so breakfast there was just to fill up like a quarter of our stomachs.

The service was generally quite alright. When we reached there, we took the same lift with a staff. He greeted us with a warm welcome and even told us to go for breakfast a bit later as the breakfast area will be overcrowded. Avillion was fully booked for the weekend. I had room service too which I ordered a Soto Ayam. They could understand me and even bothered to call back when they ran out of rice which was part of the dish. I switched to Kway Teow and the dish turned out quite good.

My partner and I dislikes too much noise and people in hotels. So overrall, I would definitely choose to go back to Avillion if it's during the holiday peak period.

“Avillion Legacy - classy, busy, breakfast cold!” - greytravellerMelb, Australia
Date of review: Nov 5, 2010
The Avillion Legacy is at the far end of Jalan Hang Tuah, a 45-minute walk to the centre of Melaka. At the city end of Jalan Hang Tuah, to the right, a 10 minute walk into ChinaTown. FOH staff efficient and smiling, no problems with check-in or out. Rooms generous and clean, serviced properly. Breakfast generally cold, as were most hotels we stayed during our 3-week trip[3 hotels]. Avillion very busy due to many conference groups, but excellent pool area nicely quiet, although hard to locate.

Opposite the hotel is the large, local supermarket/clothing 'Store'. Everything you want[except large western sizes] at great prices. Pants less than $10 AUS, and they will alter the length as well.
For travel around Melaka, the local bus stops right outside, next to the 'Store' front steps. You travel to Sentral[5 minutes], then take whichever bus suits. 'Mahkota Parade' goes to the large shopping centre, past the city centre and tourist sites. 'Panorama' buses do not go on the route described in the website. From Sentral the double-decker tourist bus does a leisurely trip past the tourist sites, and the 'blue' bus is actually RED, cheap, and does a whole tour of the city and outskirts, taking approx. 50 minutes, but does not travel past some bus-stops which display it's timetable!

A journey to Ayer Keroh zoo is worthwhile, a neat little go-kart track is across the road.
Avillion, like Melaka in general, could vastly improve information for travellers/tourists.
Excellent golf courses in Ayer Keroh, Tiara and Orna.
Portuguese settlement is not worth going, however off Jonker Walk the Geographer restaurant is excellent, but the best food, with the grooviest staff, is to be had nearby at "Eleven' Portuguese restaurant. Outdoor eating, or indoor late-night cocktails, "Eleven' is a great place to be at.

“One of the more grand colonial hotels in Melaka” - An Agoda Traveler
Date of review: Apr 1, 2009
If you're used to staying a bigger hotels of a certain standard then Avillion Legacy (previously Grand Legacy) would be appropriate. Do note that it takes a good 20 mins to walk to Jonker Walk tho, as the location isn't exactly the best. The hotel itself looks better than it does in the photos, and certainly has some character. Pretty good value for money.

Liked — Big, grand hotel with full hotel facilities and services. Architecture is interesting, and colour scheme is pleasant. From your room, you get some view of Melaka, especially if you on a higher floor. Complimentary Carparking is available for people driving in to Melaka.

Disliked — Location is a little far out, by walking it takes 10 mins walk to Jonker Walk. At night, after a night of sightseeing, it takes quite a while to flag a cab as there aren't that many there!

Tips/Secrets — Note that it is cheaper to flag a cab when you're on the main street, rather than flagging one from the road! The cab to Jonker Walk should cost about 10 ringgit.
